It is also among the nation’s top 20 metro areas based on the cost of living and affordable housing.

 

The metro area always provides an abundance of things to do, many of them without cost. Forest 

Park is one of the largest inner-city parks in the country and is home to the Saint Louis Zoo, Saint 

Louis Art Museum, Missouri History Museum, The Muny Theatre of St. Louis, and The Jewel Box.

 

St. Louis is home to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, the St. Louis Blues hockey team and the major league soccer team, St. Louis City SC.

 

Travel a short distance out of the metro area, and you will find many other activities including Six 

Flags St. Louis, and Meramec Caverns, one of the largest cave systems in Missouri.

 

St. Louis is home to many unique neighborhoods offering a variety of restaurants, bars, and shopping.  Downtown St. Louis houses the city’s sports venues and is the site of many celebrations including July 4th and St. Patrick’s Day. The Delmar Loop and University City area is the site of many unique and historical concert venues. The Shaw neighborhood is home to the Missouri Botanical Garden. The Hill, St. Louis’s historic Italian neighborhood, features more than 15 authentic Italian restaurants. Soulard provides a little taste of the New Orleans French Quarter here in St. Louis, and is the site of the biggest Mardi Gras celebration outside of New Orleans, and is home to historic Soulard Farmers Market, where you can find fresh produce and goods year-round.
