Whether you’re coming to us as a patient, prospective patient, or visiting a loved one, we will do everything we can to make your experience the best it can be. We welcome you and thank you for trusting us with your or your loved one’s care.

BJC Visitor Policy

At Alton Memorial Hospital, we strive to provide a positive patient experience and recognize the important role visitors play in the healing process. As part of BJC HealthCare, we follow a standard visitor policy to ensure a consistent experience across BJC’s 14 hospitals, multiple health service organizations and 100+ doctors’ offices.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

For those coming for procedures, the Duncan Wing entrance is open from 6:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 6 a.m. - noon on Saturday. At all other hours, you should come in the Emergency Department entrance, which is open at all hours. Additionally, valet service is available on the circle drive side of the Duncan Wing from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. That entrance is also open as early as 5:30 a.m. on weekdays for drop-offs. It is closed at night and on the weekends.

The Smith Wing entrance is open for expectant mothers from 5 a.m. - 9 p.m. Please use the Emergency department entrance between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Cafeteria & dining options

Whether it is a fresh cooked turkey breast or round roast of beef hot from the oven, our nutrition staff believes that great food plays a key role in healing and overall well-being.  A state of the art kitchen allows many opportunities to provide fresh wholesome ingredients cooked well. Our entire team is here to support our guests with a spirit of welcoming hospitality.

Catering to You

To provide an enjoyable dining experience, we offer a service to our patients called Catering To You.

Our catering associates are experienced at fulfilling all culinary needs during your stay providing personalized service for menu ordering and explanation of diet and changes. Shortly after being admitted to the hospital, a catering associate will visit you to introduce our program and discuss menu selections. 

Elm Ridge Bistro

Elm Ridge Bistro is located on the ground floor of the hospital and provides a wide selection of delicious entrees, salad bar, soup, sandwiches and grab-n-go items.

Hot Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. - 10 a.m.
Continental Breakfast: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
Lunch: 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Snacks: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Dinner: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.


Saturday and Sunday:
Hot Breakfast: 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Lunch: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Dinner: 4 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Gift shop

Miss Eunice's Hat Box

Miss Eunice's Hat Box is now open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday!
 

Miss Eunice's Hat Box, the Alton Memorial Hospital gift shop, is on the ground floor of the Beeby Wing, right across from the cafeteria entrance. BJC employee badges and credit/debit cards only will be accepted as the gift shop will be cashless for now.

Send an E-Greeting

Sending an e-greeting is a great way to send a personal message to a patient in Alton Memorial Hospital. Before you begin you will need the patient’s first name and last name if you want the e-greeting to go to a specific patient. Please also include the patient’s room number if you know it. Please note, “ to add a photo or other attachment you must use the create your own card feature".

Messages can be delivered to patients listed in the hospital directory whose status is inpatient. We apologize, but we cannot deliver messages to patients coming to the hospital for same-day surgery, outpatient or clinic visits. If the patient is no longer a patient of the hospital or is not listed in the hospital directory, the message will not be delivered.

Spiritual care & chapel

Whether you are a patient or have a loved one at Alton Memorial Hospital, spiritual care services provides a calming presence during the healing process. Our chaplain, working as part of the care team with physicians, nurses and other caregivers, offers guidance during crises; when dealing with critical decisions regarding patient care; when developing a care plan; or, just to provide emotional and spiritual support.

Our chaplain will visit with you during your hospital stay when possible. If you would like to have your religious/spiritual leader visit you while at Alton Memorial Hospital, we encourage you to let him know about your hospitalization.

When Spiritual Care May Be Needed

Spiritual care provides comfort for patients, their families, hospital staff and volunteers:

  • When a patient/family is coping with a difficult diagnosis
  • When a patient/family is facing surgery
  • When a patient/family is fearful, anxious or depressed
  • When a patient or family is having difficulty dealing with a prolonged illness or deterioration of a patient’s condition
  • When a patient faces death or end-of-life decision-making is needed
  • When a patient is seeking the presence of God in their healthcare situation
  • When hospital staff needs spiritual guidance
  • When a patient/family is faced with a moral/ethical dilemma

Advance Directive

Spiritual care services can also help patients with an advance directive, which is a legal document directing your medical decisions when you are unable. There are various types of advance directive forms on the Illinois Department of Public Health website (http://www.idph.state.il.us/public/books/advin.htm).  Our chaplain is available to help you complete these forms if needed.

Beck Chapel

The Beck Chapel, a place for quiet reflection, prayer and refuge for patients, families and staff, is located on the ground floor by the cafeteria.

Interpretive Services

These communication services are available free for patients, related to their medical care. This includes patients who are deaf and their families with hearing disabilities or for whom English is not their primary language. We have sign language experts, signboards, and telecommunications devices. In addition to face-to-face interpretation services, the Hospital provides over-the-phone interpretation services in more than 150 languages.
