With 10 locations in MO and IL, find a convenient location near you.
- Step 2: Reserve a Time
Online scheduling makes it easy to book your appointment. Be prepared to provide basic information like name, date of birth, contact details, and the reason for the visit.
- Step 3: Prepare for the Visit
Gather any necessary documentation, like athletic or school forms, and bring them to the appointment. You and your child should also be ready to answer questions about medical and personal health history, including any previous injuries.
Many colleges and universities have specific requirements that require a more in-depth exam; therefore, the cost of a physical will be higher. The $35 applies to elementary and high school-aged kids.
BJC recommends getting a youth physical about 6 to 8 weeks before the activity, sports season or first day of school.
If the BJC provider determines that your child is safe to play in their sport, they will complete and sign the required sports physical form. Please have this available at the appointment as it includes information about your child’s current health, medical history and any conditions that might increase a risk of injury. The form also may include your child’s vaccination record.
The BJC provider will ask about the child’s medical conditions, medications, and any family history of health issues. The exam includes measuring vital signs like height, weight, and blood pressure, as well as a vision check, and an evaluation of the heart, lungs, and joints. The provider is screening for conditions that may put your child at a higher risk of injury, illness or other health problems that can result from physical activity.
If the BJC provider finds an issue such as an injury or condition that might indicate a problem, they may recommend another evaluation with the child’s pediatrician or family medicine provider.
Annual physicals are comprehensive evaluations of a child’s overall health and development, providing an opportunity for ongoing monitoring of developmental milestones and preventative care.
