As part of that care, all newborns in Missouri receive a simple blood test to screen for disorders that may not be apparent immediately after birth, including certain genetic, metabolic, blood, and hormone-related conditions. Additionally, there are two point-of-care screenings included in Missouri’s Newborn Screening program: newborn hearing screening and critical congenital heart disease screening.
These screenings play an important role in identifying health issues early, when timely diagnosis and treatment can significantly improve outcomes.
