Five Conditions for Same-Day Care Treatment

When faced with minor injuries and illnesses, you typically don’t need to visit the hospital. Instead, you can get same-day treatment and be seen sooner than you might in an Emergency Department. Here are five conditions that may call for same-day treatment, so you can get back in tip-top shape in no time.

Nasal congestion or sinus infection

Is it a common cold or a sinus infection? If you’ve been glued to the tissue box and saline rinse and find yourself wondering if your nasal congestion has turned into a sinus infection, it might be time to seek out same-day care. This is especially true if you have a fever, facial pain or pressure, and a loss of smell or taste. A provider can assess you and advise on comfort measures, or, in the case of a sinus infection that is ongoing, prescribe medication to help you feel better.

Sore throat or cough

Few things are more irritating than a scratchy, aching throat or persistent cough. If you have allergies, your sore throat or cough might be related to nasal congestion and postnasal drip. But you might also experience these symptoms if you have a viral or bacterial infection. If your sore throat and cough just isn’t going away, a provider at a same-day care location can check to make sure you don’t have strep throat, a bacterial infection that needs to be treated with an antibiotic.

Ear infections

Ear infections, also known as acute otitis media, are infections that occur in the area behind the eardrum, or the middle ear. Symptoms of ear infections in adults include pain or pressure in the ear, difficulty hearing, and fluid coming out of the ear. Although ear infections typically plague children more often than adults, adults also get ear infections. These infections may clear up on their own, but it’s good to consult with a health care professional regardless. You may be prescribed antibiotics to deal with the infection. If left untreated, repeated infections may cause hearing problems and other long-term issues.

Urinary tract infection

A urinary tract infection (UTI) happens when bacteria enters the urinary tract, infecting the urethra, bladder, or even your kidneys. You’ll know you have a UTI when you feel a strong urge to urinate that doesn’t go away as well as a burning sensation when you do use the bathroom. Your urine may also look cloudy or bloody. It’s a good idea to get same-day care for a UTI. Most infections require antibiotics so the infection doesn’t spread to your kidneys or cause other complications.

Rash

A rash is a symptom that can have many different causes. You might get a rash from a viral, bacterial, or fungal infection. You’re likely to get one if you encounter poison ivy. A food you’re allergic to could make you break out into itchy hives. Or an autoimmune condition such as eczema or psoriasis might be the culprit. If you’ve tried some over-the-counter remedies and nothing seems to be working to resolve your rash, try a same-day care provider. They can help you get to the bottom of your skin issues.
