PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
Missouri Baptist Medical Center’s PGY1 pharmacy residency is a 12-month postgraduate training experience designed to provide broad clinical exposure and progressive responsibility in patient care. Residents complete 52 weeks of structured learning experiences including required core rotations, longitudinal learning experiences, staffing responsibilities, teaching opportunities, and a yearlong research project.
Approximately 10 of the 12 months of practice experience must be completed at Missouri Baptist. Length of rotations vary depending on the needs and interests of the residents. Affiliated institutions offer additional rotations to meet specific skill needs and interests of each resident if approved by the program director.

- Cardiovascular Recovery Unit (5 weeks)
- Antimicrobial Stewardship/Infectious Disease (5 weeks)
Elective learning experiences (4–5 weeks, second half preferred)
- Emergency Medicine
- Advanced Internal Medicine
- Advanced Ambulatory Care
- Advanced Critical Care
Longitudinal learning experiences (52 weeks)
- Pharmacy Leadership
- Research Project
- Resident Education Academy
- Heart Failure Clinic
- Staffing, quarterly evaluations, self-evaluations, and committee involvement
What residents can expect
Residents work closely with preceptors, physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals across a wide range of practice settings. The program is designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, communication, teaching, leadership, and problem-solving skills while preparing residents for future practice and continued specialty training.
A copy of the resident’s manual is provided to each residency candidate outlining the requirements of the residency program. Residents should be knowledgeable of all program requirements, including expectations, important dates, and deadlines identified in the manual.
