Overview
The goal of Missouri Baptist’s PGY1 pharmacy residency program is to prepare residents to provide high-level pharmaceutical care while serving as integral members of the multidisciplinary team.
The Pharmacy Department includes approximately 40 pharmacists and 31 technicians, with multiple practice sites across the hospital including oncology and operating room satellite pharmacies. The department supports an extensive range of clinical services, including interdisciplinary patient care rounds, nutritional support, pharmacokinetics, drug information, investigational drug service, and participation in hospital and BJC HealthCare performance improvement committees.
The PGY1 pharmacy residency program at Missouri Baptist builds on Doctor of Pharmacy education and develops clinical pharmacists who are responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification, and prepared for postgraduate year two pharmacy residency training.
Upon completion of this program, residents will be proficient in:
- Providing patient-specific medication management services to promote compassionate, ethical, and positive patient outcomes
- Medication management of a variety of disease states
- Marketable job skills, including organization, time management, and computer literacy
- Drug information systems, formulary management, and medication-use evaluations
- Effectively educating health care professionals, patients, and students on drug-related topics
- Developing and applying problem-solving skills to actual experiences, as well as self-education and creating a professional career plan
