About James Smith, MD
James L. Smith, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in cardiology and interventional cardiology who sees patients 18 years and older.
He provides cardiology consultations for all cardiac conditions, including coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure, valvular dysfunction, chest pain, lightheadedness, peripheral arterial disease, and atrial fibrillation. Patients can also see Dr. Smith for interventional cardiology, echocardiography, stress testing, and electrocardiograms.
Dr. Smith strives to deliver patient-centered care by involving patients, their families, and a team of cardiologists and other physicians in discussing treatment plans. He focuses on achieving the best possible outcomes for each patient and is skilled at coordinating care across specialties.
Originally from Staunton, Illinois, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with his family and pets. He is an avid runner and has completed marathons in every U.S. state.
Dr. Smith earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. He completed his internship and residency at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and his fellowship in cardiovascular medicine at William Beaumont University Hospital and its affiliated hospitals in Royal Oak, Michigan.

The BJC Medical Group (BJCMG) partners with an independent survey company, Professional Research Consultants (PRC), to gather feedback directly from patients about their experiences. PRC sends electronic surveys to BJCMG patients following a medical visit, asking them to evaluate different aspects of their care.
