Designations and Accreditations

The Harold & Dixie LePere Breast Health Center is pleased to offer our patients award-winning care.

American College of Radiology Designation

The Breast Health Center received the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation from the American College of Radiology, which recognizes breast centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy, and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

NAPBC Accreditation

We are one of only 500 NAPBC-accredited centers in the nation. NAPBC accreditation is only given to centers that provide the highest level of quality breast care and undergo a rigorous evaluation process and review of their performance.

Diagnostic Tests

We use a number of screening and diagnostic tests to properly diagnose breast cancer.

The Breast Health Center of Excellence at Memorial uses the latest in medical technology to diagnose breast cancer.

3D Mammography

30-40% more invasive cancers are detected with 3D mammography.

Computer-Aided Detection (CAD)

The Hologic R2 Checker digitizes and analyzes mammograms to help radiologists better see suspicious areas.

Breast MRI

MRI is useful for screening women at high risk for breast cancer and for preoperative planning.

Ultrasound

Used along with screening mammogram to detect areas of concern.

Stereotactic Biopsy

Stereotactic biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses mammography to find and remove abnormal tissue from the breast.

Mammotome-Guided Biopsy

Using ultrasound to identify suspicious areas, mammotome-guided biopsy allows the surgeon or radiologist to collect samples through a very small incision.

Surgical Biopsy

When larger tissue samples are needed, a surgical biopsy is performed. It is a little more invasive, and it may require a 1-2 inch incision.

Treatment Options

When it comes to breast cancer treatments, your surgeon, medical oncologist, radiation oncologist, pathologist, and radiologist will meet during the twice-monthly Tumor Conference to discuss your care plan.

At the Tumor Conference, your team of caregivers will review mammograms and any MRIs with the radiologist present. Then the pathology findings from the biopsy are reviewed with the pathologist. After reviewing these items, the doctors offer their opinions about the most appropriate treatment plan, while adhering to national guidelines.

Treatment may include:

  • Surgery
  • Radiation Therapy
  • Chemotherapy
  • Endocrine Therapy (Anti-Hormonal Therapy)
