Crane will lower Queeny Tower skybridge this week
April 2021 - Over the past month, contractors have demolished the interior of the bridge between Queeny Tower and the 16th floor of West Pavilion, removed the roof and some windows, are continue stripping the bridge down to its structural steel.
The week of April 26, workers will attach crane rigging to the 24,000-pound steel frame, saw cut the steel from the two buildings, lift it over the vacant Queeny Tower, and lower it within the demolition site along Barnes-Jewish Hospital Plaza. If severe weather or gusty or sustained winds are predicted, contractors will postpone a day or two. Live webcams will capture the process.
The work should begin around 7 a.m. and will be noisy at times. Patient rooms on the 16th and 17th floors of West Pavilion in close proximity to the bridge have temporarily closed. The project team is coordinating with the clinical managers for these areas.
After the bridge is removed, structural demolition of Queeny Tower will accelerate, continuing through September.
