BJC East Region President Shares Plans for Retirement
Following 26 years of exemplary service, Bob Cannon, president of BJC Health’s East Region has announced his plans to retire, effective April 1, 2027.
Throughout his 26 years at BJC, Cannon has held a number of significant leadership positions, positively impacting almost every corner of BJC Health—from hospital operations to ambulatory care, home care & hospice, capital construction activities, real estate, supply chain, government relations, and community health improvement. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cannon served as BJC’s incident commander.
“In every role, he has strengthened our partnership with WashU and advanced our services as an integrated academic health system,” says Nick Barto, BJC Health president and CEO.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, throughout his BJC career Cannon mentored, sponsored, and developed leaders across the East Region. He also championed efforts to strengthen small businesses in the greater St. Louis area, particularly in the construction industry, helping expand apprenticeship programs that created career pathways, supported local economic growth, and built a stronger pipeline of skilled professionals.
“One of BJC Health’s greatest strengths is the deep, experienced leadership we have across our many institutions—leaders who have dedicated decades to our mission and the communities we serve,” says Barto. “Bob Cannon exemplifies that commitment. For the past 26 years, BJC has benefited from Bob’s expertise, steady leadership, and his strong commitment to our promise of delivering exceptional care in every moment.”
