- Comprehensive, conveniently located care: With on-site treatment and imaging services, we provide a full array of cancer care for St. Francois, Iron, Madison, and Washington county residents.
- Assorted infusion services: We provide specialty infusions to treat cancer and several non-cancerous conditions, allowing you to get the care you need for chronic condition management.
- Spacious treatment areas: Our treatment space has WiFi access and TVs and can accommodate up to 23 patients at a time. We invite patients to bring any snacks, books, blankets, or anything else to provide the comfort you need while receiving infusions.
- Clinical trial access: Your recovery is our top priority. If you qualify, our oncologists will connect you to clinical trials within BJC HealthCare so you can explore every option to get the care you need.
Before your appointment
We want your first visit to be as smooth and productive as possible. Here’s what you need to know:
- Ask your referring provider to send over any prior MRI images, neurological evaluations, or test results.
- Plan to arrive 15 minutes early to complete registration.
- Bring a valid photo ID and your insurance card.
- Bring a complete list of current medications, including dosages.
- Bring a summary of your current symptoms and when they first appeared.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
Most insurance plans require a referral from your primary care physician. Contact your insurance provider to confirm or call our office and we'll help verify your coverage.
Can I invite someone to go with me to my appointment?
We welcome patients to bring family members or caregivers with them to their appointments or infusion sessions, especially in the beginning. We also suggest inviting a guest to help you in case you experience side effects after receiving a new medication.
What should I wear to my appointments?
The infusion area can get chilly, so wear something that’s warm and comfortable. If you’re going to need a port placement, make sure you wear something that doesn’t require you roll up your sleeves or undress.
What happens at my first visit?
Your first visit typically includes a comprehensive evaluation, imaging, and a detailed discussion of your diagnosis and treatment options.
What is the difference between diagnostic and screening imaging?
Screening imaging is a routine check without any symptoms. Diagnostic imaging happens when there is a specific area of concern that needs additional imaging.
Which cancer screenings can I get at Parkland Health Center?
Although there isn’t a screening for every cancer, there are a number of effective tests that people should begin to have at certain ages. Guidelines can vary, but talk with your health care provider about screening at these ages:
- Gynecologic cancer: 21 years old.
- Mammogram: 40 years old.
- Prostate cancer: 45 years old.
- Colon cancer: 45 years old.
- Lung cancer: 50 years old (for people who smoke or used to smoke).
