Overview
The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis provides a full range of acute inpatient,
outpatient and community rehabilitation services for patients with stroke, brain
and spinal cord injuries, cancer, and neurologic and orthopedic conditions.
It is a joint partnership between BJC HealthCare and Encompass Health.
The state-of-the-art St. Louis facility was designed by patients, physicians
and rehabilitation experts and opened in 2001.
The hospital and its medical staff also conduct major rehabilitative research and
education programs through an affiliation with Washington University School
of Medicine. The first free-standing rehabilitation hospital in the metropolitan
area, the facility features structured care units, independent living suites and
classrooms for patient and family education.
The Rehabilitation Institute holds a disease-specific care certification through
The Joint Commission in stroke rehabilitation as well as accreditation through
the Commission on the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for its
comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program, stroke specialty program and
brain injury specialty program.
