At first glance, Burnest Orr’s chances didn’t look good. He had contracted COVID-19 at his assisted living facility in early April.

Some sisters imagine what it might be like to have and raise their kids close together. Few, however, get to experience giving birth to their babies on the exact same day, at the same hospital, delivered by the same doctor. It sounds like a fictionalized movie storyline. But for two St. Louis sisters, this was their reality.

“It takes a village to raise old people, too,” says 81-year-old Valura Massey as she sits in her primary care physician’s office in west St. Louis County, her cane close at hand. She’s been dealing with diabetes for many years and recently switched to a new physician, Nathan Moore, MD.
