After more than 42 years with BJC HealthCare, Tony Schwarm, president of Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital (MBSH) has announced plans to retire on August 31, 2021. Lisa Lochner, current vice president of operations at MBSH, has been named the new president effective September 1, 2021.
Schwarm’s career in health care began at Fayette County Hospital in Illinois where he started as a patient care tech and worked his way up to assistant administrator. He then served as president of Clay County Hospital in Flora, Illinois. In 2005, he took over as president of MBSH. Schwarm’s tenure as MBSH president has been marked by incredible expansion, including the facility replacement project, which was completed in December of 2010, and the expansion of the medical office building, which nearly doubled in size when construction was completed in 2016. Most recently, the hospital received approval to further expand the medical office building and construct a new state of the art therapy and wellness facility, which will offer a variety of therapy services as well as 24/7 community access to the fitness center. Both the expanded medical office building and new wellness facility will open in early 2022..
Lisa Lochner, a native of Sullivan, joined MBSH in 1994. Lochner has held various leadership roles in administration and is currently the vice president of operations with responsibility in various clinical and non-clinical departments and the MBSH Ambassadors. After becoming assistant administrator in 1998, Lochner oversaw the rebuilding of the hospital, which was completed in 2010. Her leadership experience, deep knowledge of the business and strong engagement with employees and medical staff make her a great fit to lead MBSH into the future.
Through her deep connection to the community, love for the hospital and embodiment of BJC’s values, Lochner will continue to advance MBSH’s mission to improve the lives of the people they serve.
