Can 8 year old take Zyrtec, Orapred, and Triaminic Cold and Cough together?

The Orapred (prednisolone) has no direct drug interactions with either of the other two medications. Normally this steroid is given in the morning after food or milk. Give this exactly as prescribed.

The Zyrtec (cetirizine) is a long acting antihistamine. the Triaminic Cold and Cough (chlorpheniramine, dextromethorphan, pseudoephedrine) contains a short acting antihistamine. Do not give these both the same day without consulting the child's pediatrician first.

The duplication of the antihistamines can make one feel drowsy or more tired when taking these drugs together. In addition, you may experience other side effects including constipation, dizziness, difficulty with urination, dry mouth and eyes, changes in vision, fast heartbeat, or confusion.

Antihistamines are found in many allergy, cough, and hay fever products. Always read the labels or ask for assistance from your pharmacist before purchasing OTC products if you are taking other medications.
