Is it safe for my nine year old to take ondansetron HCL 4mg tablet for her vomiting?

Routine use of antiemetics is not recommended but single doses of ondansetron (Zofran) can be given if ordered by the physician.

Dosing is weight based. If your child weighs less than 33 pounds (15 kg) the dose is 2 mg. For a child weighing between 33 pounds and 66 pounds (30 kg) the dose is 4 mg.

This is a prescription medication. Do not give this to any child it has not been prescribed for. Talk to the pediatrician if the vomiting is severe.
