I have been taking Mucinex D for 5 days and my last dose was 10 hours ago. How long do I need to wait if I want to switch to NyQuil Cold and Flu?

The Mucinex D (guaifenesein w/pseudoephedrine) is a twice daily, every 12 hour expectorant/decongestant product. You should wait at least 12 hours before taking the Vicks NyQuil product.

The NyQuil products have several different formulations, some of which contain oral decongestants like pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine. Taking these over a long period of time can be problematic if you have high blood pressure or heart disease. If you notice an increase in blood pressure, nervousness, palpitations, problems with sleep, or other serious side effects, please stop the NyQuil and contact your physician.

Drink plenty of water with each of these medications and only take when needed.
