Can pseudoephedrine cause a rise in blood sugar in normal adult?

Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) does not cause diabetes or high blood sugar in non-diabetic people, but it is contraindicated (not suggested to be used) for many chronic conditions including diabetes.

The oral decongestant has been shown to make the diabetic condition worse. Oral decongestants should also be avoided in those who have high blood pressure, heart disease or severe kidney disease.

Please speak to your physician or endocrinologist before taking any OTC cold medications. Make sure that all of your health care providers have a current list of your medications and chronic conditions.
