I took a 5/500mg of Vicodin which expired in 2009 what are my risks?

Taking any outdated product may have risks. The manufacturer will only guarantee safety and effectiveness through that date. That does not mean the product is harmful or will not be effective.

Taking one Vicodin (hydrocodone w/acetaminophen) that is 3-4 years out of date would pose minimal risks. Taking a lot at once or many over time would be cause for concern as acetaminophen (Tylenol) can break down. Acetaminophen can affect the liver, hence the daily limits the FDA and J&J, the manufacturer, places on the products.

Please properly dispose of any outdated or no longer taken medications you may have in your home.
