Can I give my 8 year old son who weighs 107 pounds Mucinex D or Sudafed for sinus congestion? The children's medicine does not seem to work on him.

I can not recommend you give your son an adult strength medication.

I can tell you that the Mucinex D (guaifenesin, pseudoephedrine) is available in two strengths 1200mg-120mg and 600mg-60mg tablets. The Mucinex D manufacturer's recommended dosage for children 6-12yrs is 600mg-60mg up to every 12 hours. The suggested dose for plain Sudafed (pseudoephedrine) in children 6-12 yrs is 30mg every 4-6 hrs up to 4 doses per day. I would suggest trying saline nasal spray or drops (Ocean, Ayr) first, to moisturize the nasal passages and try to relieve the congestion.
