How does my posture, when using exercise equipment (stepper, elliptical, weights) influence gains achieved from exercise?

Posture, or lack of, will definitely effect your results from exercise. When using cardiovascular equipment, especially treadmills, ellipticals and steppers, it’s important to have correct upright posture and not rely on your arms to hold up your body.

Many gym-goers try to give their lower bodies and core a “break” by grabbing onto the top of the treadmills, or supporting their body weight with their arms, which simply results in ineffective training.

When it comes to strength training, posture is equally important. When the body is out of position, the correct muscles fail to become engaged and injury occurs. The body needs stability in certain areas and mobility in others - when stability fails, joints try to compensate where muscles should be doing the work.
