I’d like to lose a little weight, but am limited in what I can do. I am a disabled person who uses a wheelchair. Suggestions?

The basic components to weight loss are calories in, calories out. Though your exercise maybe restricted, there are some resources and exercises you could do. Check with a physical therapist or ask your physician for suggestions. Since I don't know the nature of your disability, I would steer you to those experts regarding activity.

Nutritionally, eating a diet of whole grains, fruits and vegetables and cutting back on empty calories foods such as sweets and chips is the key to weight management and weight loss. Eating regular meals — three meals a day (or six small meals) — is important in getting the nourishment your body needs. Keep a food diary as well. Portion size is often a challenge, so weighing and measuring foods could help. For example, a serving of pasta is 1/3 cup; 3 ounces of meat is a standard size.

Consider a registered dietitian for one-on-one counseling about a meal plan. You will need a doctor's referral, and there is a charge for visits.
