How many calories would I need to intake to lose quickly? I’m 45, weigh 334 pounds and am 5’8”.

The best way to lose weight is to do it slowly: 1-2 pounds a week is a safe weight loss. So, I really can't answer your question. Your activity level and whether you are female or male are factors, as well. It's not just the calories we take it, but what we expend that factors in the equation, so exercise needs to be part of the plan. It doesn't have to be strenuous. A little walk will do at first. Eat a variety of whole grains, fruits and vegetables, less added fats and sweets.

Besides exercise and diet, review your habits and behaviors that affect your weight. Then focus on making lifestyle changes. It takes time, and does not happen quickly. But to be successful, think about your overall health and incorporate changes into your life that will be permanent.

Talk with your physician, and contact a dietitian who will work with you closely one-on-one. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Choose My Plate website offers more information. Also, there are numerous Weight Watchers meetings at various BJC facilities.
