I am 5’4” and weigh 185. How much weight should I lose?

When it comes to losing weight, you want to set realistic goals. Don't think so much about weight loss itself, but your overall health, and making lifestyle and behavior changes. This includes eating a variety of foods, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meat and less fat, especially less saturated fats and transfats.

To answer your question, however, it would help greatly to know your age. Nonetheless, for overall health benefits, losing just 5-10 percent of your body weight can have health benefits for most adults. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Choose My Plate website offers more information on a healthy diet.

Don't forget about exercise. Best type of exercise: walking. Check with your physician before starting any exercise program.
