The American Heart Association recommends keeping sodium intake to less than 1,500mg a day. To put this in perspective, a McDonald's cheeseburger and medium fries contains 960mg of sodium, and McDonald's bacon ranch salad with crispy chicken has 1,140mg of sodium. A 1-ounce serving of pretzels has 385mg of sodium. One tablespoon of Heinz ketchup has 190mg of sodium.
