My doctor told me not to over-gain in my pregnancy — no more than 15-20 pounds, because I am already overweight. Please help me with some eating tips.

The best advice I can give is to eat a basic healthy diet. Include more whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Choose low-fat dairy products and leaner cuts of meat, such as skinless chicken. Limit higher calorie foods — sweets, cakes, candies and regular soda — and think of them as empty calories.

You want to choose more nutrient-dense foods for you and your baby. Limit fried foods, and choose baked or broiled items more often. And if your doctor says it's okay, include some walking every day.

Check out the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Choose My Plate website for tips on eating healthier and incorporating activity.
