December 2021 - BJC HealthCare’s infection prevention specialist Loie Couch vaccinated 15 workers on the Campus Renewal Project at Barnes-Jewish Hospital December 1. That was more than one-third of the workforce in this early stage of the project.
Nov. 2021 - Cheryl Stoddard, President of Technology Integration Engineering (TIE), credits participation in BJC Planning, Design and Construction’s (PD&C) diversity and inclusion program for the growth of her young company. “The Capacity Building Warehouse (CBW) was a catalyst for where we are today,” says Stoddard. “I would have struggled more if it had not been for applying to BJC’s CBW and making connections through BJC 201.”
October 18-22, 2021 marks the inaugural Construction Inclusion Week in which every member of the construction industry is invited to unite in efforts to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. BJC HealthCare’s Campus Renewal Project is an opportunity to build on the success of our diversity and inclusion work in the design and construction community launched in 2013 during the first phase of Campus Renewal.
Oct. 2021 – The September BJC 201 program, the third this year that was held virtually, focused on how to successfully create strategic alliances on design and construction projects. These quarterly sessions are intended to create learning experiences in key areas of business/industry including operations, project management, estimating, marketing, business development and financial controls.
Sept. 27, 2021 - Building on the legacy of providing exceptional health care to patients from the St. Louis region, Missouri, Illinois, the nation and around the world, BJC HealthCare will soon break ground on a 16-story inpatient hospital tower at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. The new inpatient tower is an important component of BJC’s Campus Renewal, a long-term vision to transform the Washington University Medical Campus (WUMC) through new construction and renovations with an overall focus on improving the experiences of patients and families served by Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Summer 2021 - The Campus Renewal Project team celebrated interns and new hires who are contributing to the future of health care. The aspiring and new architects and engineers learned more about BJC and the goals of the project, as well as the passion the entire team has for health care. July 2021 - Cordell Sawyer, a union-trained journeyman carpenter, is always eager to learn and grow. While working all day, took evening classes at St. Louis Community College to earn an associate’s degree in Applied Science in Skilled Trades Industrial Apprenticeship Training: Carpentry. He started Sledroc Construction Company in 2010, landing his first job at BJC in 2015 subcontracting to Tarlton Corp. on a garage job.
June 2021 - When DTLS started working with BJC shortly after its founding in 2012, Julia Montroy, DTLS principal and landscape architect, led an office of four. The firm now employs 12, due in part to growth stemming from work on BJC’s Campus Renewal.
June 2021 - All month, demolition contractors chipped away at the Queeny Tower elevator penthouse and the top three floors, creating large piles of rubble that were shoved down empty elevator shafts or lifted to the ground by the crane. Get a bird's eye view of their work.
