This week is the fifth-annual Wound Care Awareness Week, sponsored by Healogics.
Approximately 6.7 million people in the United States experience chronic wounds. This number is rising, due in part to the aging of the country's population and increasing rates of diabetes, obesity and other diseases and conditions, like the late effects of radiation therapy. If left untreated, chronic wounds can negatively impact a patient's quality of life and possibly lead to amputation of the affected limb.
“We see patients living with non-healing wounds for a prolonged amount of time due to the lack of awareness of advanced wound care options,” said Adnan Siddiqui, MD, Medical Director of the Christian Hospital Wound Care & Hyperbarics Center. “We work to educate community physicians about which of their patients can benefit from advanced wound care, and then provide coordinated care to heal that patient’s wounds.”
If you suffer from a non-healing wound, you should contact your physician and ask if advanced wound care and treatment in a hyperbarics center is an option for you. You can find Wound Care Centers at the following BJC HealthCare facilities:
