Keith Woeltje, MD, PhD

Keith Woeltje, MD, PhD, is Vice President and Chief Medical Information Officer for BJC. Dr. Woeltje directs the Healthcare Informatics group within the Center for Clinical Excellence. In this role he oversees analytics and business intelligence, clinical decision support, clinical quality abstraction and reporting, data governance, clinical information systems, and medical direction of the BJC Epic implementation. He is a professor of medicine in infectious diseases at the Washington University School of Medicine, as well as a member of the Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences, and a scholar at the Institute for Public Health, Washington University, St. Louis. Dr. Woeltje is board-certified in internal medicine, infectious diseases, and clinical informatics. He has been listed in Best Doctors in America since 2005.

Dr. Woeltje received his medical and doctorate degrees from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas. He completed his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in infectious diseases at Barnes Hospital and the Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis. After a year as medicine chief resident at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Dr. Woeltje joined the faculty at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta. He served there as hospital epidemiologist until returning to Washington University in 2004. Dr. Woeltje joined the Center for Clinical Excellence in 2010, and was Director of Healthcare Informatics from 2011 until assuming his new role in January 2016.

Dr. Woeltje’s research interests are in the epidemiology and prevention of healthcare associated infections and other patient safety events. In particular he is interested in the application of medical informatics tools to automated surveillance, as well as clinical decision support to reduce adverse events and improve care.
