John Antes

President, Missouri Baptist Medical Center

As president of Missouri Baptist Medical Center, John Antes leads a 489-bed, acute-care hospital that offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services and 24-hour emergency care. Consistently recognized among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical quality, Missouri Baptist is rated among top Missouri hospitals for cardiac surgery and cardiac care and is designated by the National Cancer Institute as one of 63 Community Clinical
Oncology programs in the nation. Missouri Baptist is ranked the number three hospital in Missouri by U.S. News & World Report, and achieved Magnet Recognition® from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2016.

Antes previously served as president of the BJC hospitals in St. Charles County, Missouri – Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Progress West Hospital. Until 2013, Antes led these two hospitals serving one of the fastest-growing communities in the St. Louis metropolitan region.

Antes joined BJC in 2005 from MedCath Incorporated where he gained extensive experience in new hospital start-ups. He served as president and chief executive officer of the organization’s Heart Hospital of Milwaukee. Previously, Antes was vice president of MedCath’s Harlingen Medical Center in Texas and executive director of its Heart Clinic in McAllen, Texas. His prior experience includes four years with Baptist Health System in Birmingham, where he served as director of ambulatory diagnostic services, physician practice management, and operations.

Antes holds a master’s degree in health administration from Washington University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Memphis State University. Antes is a member of the Missouri Baptist Medical Center Board of Trustees, Missouri Baptist Healthcare Foundation Board, BJC Accountable Care Organization Board, Chair of the Health Services Division of the St. Louis United Way, and is a member of the AHA Regional Policy Board 6. He maintains a membership in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has joined the Missouri Hospital Association Finance Committee.

Antes has two sons, Preston and Greyson.
