Blessing Health System joins BJC Collaborative

May 20, 2013 – Blessing Health System in Quincy, Ill., announced May 9 that it will participate in the BJC Collaborative, a partnership among health care systems throughout Illinois, Missouri and eastern Kansas.
The Collaborative was founded in October 2012 by BJC, Memorial Health System in Springfield, Ill., Saint Luke’s Health System in Kansas City, Mo., and CoxHealth in Springfield, Mo., to improve the quality and efficiency of health care in the Midwest.

While remaining independent, member and participant organizations are collaborating to achieve savings, deploy clinical programs and services to improve access to and quality of health care for patients, lower health care costs, and create additional efficiencies that will benefit patients and communities.

“Blessing has taken a bold step into the future of health care and aligned itself with the best partners available,” said B. Bradford Billings, president and CEO of Blessing Health System. “The BJC Collaborative will provide Blessing with access to the best medical resources and professionals in the region and allow Blessing to participate in shaping the direction of health care services throughout the Midwest in a rapidly changing health care field.”

“Blessing is a natural choice as a Collaborative partner due to its longtime local relationship with Memorial Health System and regional relationship with BJC,” said Sandra Van Trease, BJC group president providing strategic direction and leadership on the Collaborative. “Blessing’s commitment to improving health outcomes and leveraging resources among Collaborative partners to drive enhanced efficiency and value will bring greater benefit to the Collaborative. We are excited to have the opportunity to work together.”

Blessing’s participation will deepen the organization’s connection to the St. Louis and Springfield, Ill., health care markets, which are frequent sites of referrals for Blessing patients who need specialized medical care or treatment. Blessing is the first health system to be invited to participate in the Collaborative by the founding members. Memorial Health System is sponsoring Blessing’s participation.

Blessing Health System comprises two hospitals, a physician group, a four-year nursing education program, a foundation and a group of medical specialty businesses. Overseeing the activities of all the organizations within the system is Blessing Corporate Services, Inc., which was formed in 1983 and is the parent company of Blessing Hospital; Illini Community Hospital; Blessing Physician Services; Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing; the Blessing Foundation; and Denman Services, Inc.
