BJC HealthCare and HealthSouth Announce Plan to Build 35-Bed Rehabilitation Hospital
BJC HealthCare and HealthSouth Corporation have filed a certificate of need with the State of Missouri to build a 35-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the third floor of BJC's Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital located in St. Peters, Missouri.
The $12.2 million construction project is expected to last approximately nine months, with the official opening slated for Summer 2017.
If approved, the hospital will serve as a satellite location of The Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis, an existing inpatient rehabilitation hospital operated by BJC HealthCare and HealthSouth.
"The addition of TRISL's inpatient rehabilitation services really gets to the core of our mission of improving the health of the people and the communities we serve," said Jill Skyles, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer for BJSPH and Progress West Hospital. "Having TRISL as a provider of rehabilitation services within BJSPH will enable patients to get the care they need right in their own community, close to their homes and families."
In addition to providing much needed rehabilitation services, it will bring approximately 86 new jobs to the area in its first year.
"BJC HealthCare has a long history of providing high-quality care, and we're honored to continue our partnership with them to provide our services to the St. Charles County area," said Barbara Jacobsmeyer, president of HealthSouth's central region. "This new hospital will uniquely position the partnership to continue its well known and respected legacy as a premier provider of comprehensive medical services long into the future."
