The St. Louis Children's Hospital After-Hours Service is an expansion of the St. Louis Children's Hospital Answer Line, which has been serving the community with pediatric health advice and referrals since 1990.

This is how the service works for you and your patients:
Nothing changes for your patients' parents or caregivers. When an after-hours call is needed, they continue to call your exchange. However, the exchange can route most questions to our pediatric nurses. Our nurses discuss immediate at-home treatments and are available for same night follow-up consultation. They also facilitate emergency room visits when appropriate, ensure that you receive only the proper calls, and will save you- on average-70 to 75% of the calls you would have received.

Our nurses follow protocols approved by an advisory board comprised of community pediatricians on staff at St. Louis Children's Hospital, pediatric faculty at Washington University School of Medicine, and pharmacy and risk management professionals.

You are charged for the service based on a per-call fee schedule. Your patients' families have easy access and quick answers to questions they might otherwise postpone. This program increases your ability to meet each patient's needs -- no matter what time it is or where you are. You get added hours of freedom combined with professional peace of mind.

The After Hours Service is staffed by St. Louis Children's Hospital pediatric nurses who have an average of 16 years of pediatric nursing experience. The service is available, as you need it for evenings, nights and weekend coverage.

Our newest service, in response to requests by our pediatricians, is an answering service. We can now handle all of your after hours needs, including newborn and admission messaging. The answering service is available as an add-on service to the After-Hours triage program for a monthly fee.
