BJCBH & BHP provide psychiatric outpatient services to clients who are court-committed to DMH and live in our service areas These clients were found to be not guilty of a crime by reason of mental disease or defect (NGRI), or they were unable to stand trial. They are indefinitely committed to the DMH. Their inpatient treatment has restored them to a level of functioning with little probability of incident. They have been granted a court-ordered, conditional release to return to the community.
Mandatory conditions of release:
- Compliance with their psychiatric treatment
- Monthly contact with their forensic case monitor
We strive for consistent procedures for all clients. The unique status of forensic clients requires more attention. The case manager or supervisor must be contacted immediately when:
- A client is out of compliance with his or her conditions of release (We will inform you of those conditions when you begin serving the client.)
- A client has missed a doctor's appointment
- There is evidence or suspicion that a client is not taking the prescribed medications
- There is a positive drug screen; forensic clients with a history of drug or alcohol use are required to have a monthly random drug screen
The court reviews a forensic client's conditional release after six months in the community. If an extension is approved, an annual review is conducted by the court. All hearing documents must be in the Attorney General's office six weeks before the court date. Quarterly contract provider progress reports and clinical documents are submitted to the court. If the court date occurs before a contract provider progress report is due, the case manager may ask you to complete the report early. You will be compensated if asked to testify. |
