The people who work at BJC HealthCare hospitals are committed to protecting your privacy. Of course, we need to communicate with you and your health-care team about your health situation to provide the best medical care possible. But, we only will share your health information with people who need to know, or friends or family you have designated.

New federal laws ensure the privacy of your health information. BJC HealthCare hospitals adhere to these laws, as well as to a set of BJC Privacy Standards. In addition, we train our employees about the importance of patient privacy and what their specific duties are under the BJC Privacy Standards.

One way you can help maintain your privacy is by sharing your personal information only with designated hospital employees. Ask to see identification if you are unsure if someone is an authorized hospital employee. You should be especially careful about offering personal information to people you don’t know or can’t identify. For example, while you are in the hospital, no one will call you on the phone to request personal information.

BJC HealthCare hopes this has provided you and your family with useful information about our commitment to patient safety and health-care quality, and the role you can play in aiding your recovery. The doctors, nurses and other health professionals of BJC HealthCare offer their pact and promise that we will do all we can to answer your questions and ensure that your health-care experience with us is a positive one.
