For intensive rehabilitation, extended medical and nursing care, there are five skilled nursing facilities within BJC HealthCare. These facilities also provide subacute care for medically complex patients needing dialysis, wound care, intravenous antibiotics, respiratory therapy, rehabilitative services, blood transfusions, chemotherapy and hospice care. All services are provided in an atmosphere that optimizes a patient's comfort and independence. There is a continuing care retirement community that offers independent apartment living to older adults who are functionally and socially independent. Residents have easy access to meals. housekeeping services, social programs and transportation; and may also receive assisted-living services or medical care.

Transitional Care Unit — at Alton Memorial Hospital, for patients who require short-term skilled nursing care as a transition between acute care, home care or nursing home care
Skilled Nursing (SWING) — at Missouri Baptist Sullivan Hospital, for patients who still require nursing care or therapies, but not the level of care available through regular hospitalization
Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis — a free-standing facility for patients who have been admitted to the hospital specifically for the purpose of rehabilitation for spinal cord injuries, brain injuries, stroke, neuromuscular problems, and bone and joint injuries
Village North Retirement Community, Rehabilitation and Nursing Center — independent apartment living with a 24-hour emergency call system, paired with a 60-bed skilled nursing facility
