February 1, 2012 - Boone Hospital Tower Attains LEED Gold Status

The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded the new patient tower at Boone Hospital Center LEED Gold status for environmentally friendly construction and design.

“Having a healthy community requires a healthy environment,” says Daniel Rothery, Boone Hospital president. “This LEED Gold recognition identifies Boone Hospital as a leader in green hospital construction. This achievement illustrates our commitment to both the people and environment in mid-Missouri.”

The patient tower opened in June, 2011. It features 128 private patient rooms, a new laboratory and conference center.

Among the tower’s green features are: rooftop solar panels for heating water, a 30,000 gallon rainwater harvesting tank, triple pane windows, natural lighting, native landscaping and occupancy lighting sensors. The tower was also built with more than 10 percent recycled materials and, during construction, greater than 95 percent of construction waste was recycled.
