GermWatcher is an electronic web-based, expert system that models the Centers for Disease Control's National Healthcare Safety Network. It supports Infection Control specialists in detecting, tracking and investigating infections in hospitalized patients. GermWatcher has successfully automated the basic surveillance tasks for all hospitals within BJC HealthCare.

Surveillance Assistant is a health care software that collects and analyzes data with the goal of reducing and preventing hospital acquired infections, improving employee health and monitoring the health of the community.

Automated Guideline Monitor is a rules-based Clinical Decision Support application. Automated Guideline Monitor is built using open-source and service-oriented technologies, with the rules being de-coupled and independent from the database or the consuming application. Types of rules developed in AGM include: drug dosing and contraindication rules; drug-drug interaction rules; clinical guideline adherence rules; risk prediction rules and event detection rules.

PharmADE is an asynchronous safety-net clinical decision support application developed by the Center for Clinical Excellence that detects potentially dangerous drug-drug interactions.

Top

DoseRanger is an asynchronous safety-net clinical decision support application that screens drug orders for appropriate drug dosing and contraindication based on patient-specific information.

Top

Condition Monitor is used to identify patients with specific disease states of interest so that information can be used for clinical decision support and reporting.

PES Web is the web application where alerts generated from all of our clinical decision support applications can be viewed and responded to. The clinical information displayed on the web page is customizable by rule so that pertinent information can be shown to help the responder make an informed decision about the action to take in response to the alert.

Safety Event Management System is the streamlined safety event reporting system built for BJC that is replacing the existing Safety Event System. It greatly improves the capabilities of Safety Event System by summarizing the event reporting process from the time an event is entered by an employee up until the point after the investigation where the event is closed out by a risk manager.

Hypoglycemic Risk Alerts use a predictive model to determine if a diabetic patient is at a high risk of his/her blood glucose level falling to a critical level. The alert is sent to clinicians who use an SBAR tool to identify the changes needed in a patient’s diabetic therapy to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.

Clinical Deterioration Alerts use a comprehensive risk model to identify the likelihood a patient’s clinical condition will deteriorate and require being admitted to the ICU. Currently still in the research phase, these alerts are sent to a rapid response team which assess the patient’s illness severity using the Modified Early Warning Score and use the results of that score to determine the appropriate interventions.

Core Measure Alerts are focused on medication-related guidelines that are measured by the Joint Commission in order to address potential fallouts while the patient is still in the hospital.

Readmission Alerts assist with reduction in avoidable readmissions for pneumonia, AMI, CHF or COPD.

Pediatric Adverse Drug Events -- St. Louis Children’s Hospital is collaborating with the Child Health Care Corporation’s Adverse Drug Event Sustain and Spread Collaboration to prevent harm associated with treatment in a pediatric hospital. To support this effort, the Center for Clinical Excellence has developed alerts in the Pharmacy Expert System based on triggers developed by the collaboration. Alerts are issued to pharmacists on a webpage when rule violations are detected and a monthly report is sent to St. Louis Children’s Hospital clinicians to aid with their surveillance program.
