Mel Donatelli is the director of Strategy and Operations at the Center for Clinical Excellence. As Director, she works closely with the chief quality officer to set direction for BJC in the areas of both Clinical and Service Quality. In this role, she works to seek and evaluate tools to best position the organization, in addition to its ability to use innovations to work differently.
Ms. Donatelli holds degrees in business administration and information technology, as well as a masters in health administration and business administration from Saint Louis University, and has furthered her interest in change leadership and organizational development by continuing with doctoral-level coursework.
Early in her career, she spent time learning operations at a small, St. Louis-based not-for-profit hospital. Ms. Donatelli then spent the next seven years working in health care management consulting for Ernst & Young. Specializing in clinical transformation and technology implementations, she assisted large, integrated delivery networks in planning initiatives, process improvement, standard work development and implementation, as well as electronic medical records and computerized order entry technology solution deployment.
She continued her planning work at BJC, with a role in corporate Strategic Planning and Business Development. Ms. Donatelli led the BJC Medical Group’s ancillary electronic medical record performance improvement prior to assuming her current role at the Center for Clinical Excellence. Here, she has helped scope system initiatives focusing on preventable harm and patient-centered outcomes.
