President, St. Louis Children's Hospital
As president of St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Joan Magruder leads one of the premier pediatric hospitals in the United States, serving not just the children of St. Louis, but children around the world.
Magruder served from 2006 to 2013 as president of one of BJC’s largest community hospitals, Missouri Baptist Medical Center in west St. Louis County, which is consistently ranked among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the nation for clinical quality. She joined BJC as vice president of business development, physician services and alternate care sites in 2000 from Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, where she served as administrator of the department of surgery, outpatient services, transplantation and the physician group practice.
Magruder holds a master’s degree in business administration from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a bachelor’s degree from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York.
Founded in 1879, Children’s Hospital provides a full range of pediatric services to the St. Louis metropolitan area and a primary service region covering six states. As the pediatric teaching hospital for Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis Children’s Hospital offers nationally recognized programs for physician training and research.
