Quality Recognition

BJC’s Center for Healthcare Quality and Effectiveness coordinates patient safety and health care quality efforts, shares best practices and reports meaningful measures to both the government and to the public. BJC’s coordinated approach has been recognized nationally by the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.

In 2007, Barnes-Jewish Hospital was once again recognized among the country’s top hospitals by U.S.News & World Report. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is on the Honor Roll, a distinction reserved for hospitals that perform at a superior level in multiple specialties. Barnes-Jewish Hospital is the only Honor Roll hospital within a 300-mile radius of St. Louis.

In addition to being recognized by U.S.News & World Report for pediatrics, St. Louis Children’s Hospital was selected by Child magazine for its 2007 list of the nation’s “10 Best” pediatric hospitals. St. Louis Children’s is the only hospital in Missouri, Illinois and the surrounding eight-state region to achieve this elite ranking.

Three BJC HealthCare hospitals have achieved Magnet status, the highest level of recognition for hospital nursing excellence awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Barnes-Jewish Hospital, Boone Hospital Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital are designated Magnet hospitals for their ability to attract nurses by emphasizing innovation in clinical practice and professional collaboration.

Boone Hospital Center achieved Top 100 Hospital status from Solucient and Modern Healthcare magazine. Top 100 hospitals set new standards of performance in five critical areas — clinical outcomes, patient safety, operational efficiency, financial results and service to the community.

In 2008, Parkland Health Center was recognized in Modern Healthcare magazine for its selection as one of Thomson Healthcare’s “100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success.”
