Supporting Medical Research

BJC HealthCare plays an important role in shaping the future of health care. By supporting innovations in biomedical research, BJC helps physicians and scientists develop new treatment approaches and expand options for patients.

Construction of the $235 million BJC Institute of Health at Washington University began in late 2007. The Institute will allow teams of researchers to collaborate in key therapeutic areas of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases and neurodegenerative conditions. The results of this multi-disciplinary effort are expected to advance medical science, technology and patient care practices. The goal is to speed the time between basic research and the development of treatments that will benefit patients here in our communities and nationwide.

BJC HealthCare also has invested in the Center of Research, Technology and Entrepreneurial Exchange (CORTEX), the effort to develop a biomedical research hub in the 1,000-acre area of midtown St. Louis between Washington University, St. Louis University and the Missouri Botanical Garden.
